I once put friction and inertia in the same category, both some kind of force preventing full movement, feelings we tried our best to steer clear of in our work.
I have a new relationship with those words now. I don’t like inertia, that heaviness set from your own limitations. The mountain you just can’t get yourself up to get over. AI can remove that.
I suppose at one time I’d say I didn’t like friction—the force of a few options, directions, ideas rubbing against each other. AI can remove that too.
But friction is where the good work lives. It’s the healthy thought, the place where you often go with your gut, the ebbing and flowing, the smoothing out.
Let AI remove the inertia, not the friction.
